Goofer dust appears to me to be what is generically called, in the Congo and Angola "Mpolo". Mpolo is any magical powder. It can contain and usually does contain dirt from a grave. It can however include or totally consist of powders from plants, burnt or otherwise pulverized animal skins, bones, parts or other types of dirt. The purposes of such mpolo are quite diverse. In fact, the same ingrediants can be used for very different results based upon intent and ritual.
