Wallace"|Date: Sun, 22 Oct 1995 17:42:27 -0400 |To what extent do you consider Thelema to be a magickal philosophy? Thelema includes many different philosophical constructs. To attempt to boil it down to 'a magickal (sic) philosophy' or a 'nonmagical philosophy' demonstrates a fundamental ignorance of the extent of its features. In fact, it is easier to locate Thelema within a system of values than ideas: of individualism, autonomy, self-esteem, etc. |To what extent do you consider it to be contradictory to such magickal |forms as the Craft, to Chaos Magick? 'The Craft' is not 'a magical form'. It is a cluster of neomasonic ritual and thealogical systems typically associated with Northern European geographix and the ambiguous, Satanic, name of 'Witchcraft'. If you really want to be picayune, 'the Craft' isn't magical at all, being but the remnant of a social meme-storage system dedicated to structural ritual recall and the instillment of social values (i.e. 'Freemasonry'). 'Chaos Magick' is also not 'a magical form', it being mostly an approach to magical style: eclectic, syncretic, imaginative, and not necessarily consistent with original theoretical leanings, though a 'Fundamentalist Chaos Magick' (I call them 'Chayoats') is indeed developing. 'Thelema' is not contrary to any particular magical style. This is because it is a principle which may be applied within any context, by any person whatever. free love, right now mu
