Date: 2 Apr 1997 23:23:36 -0500 Sorry I can't give a title and author here, but last year I read a book on the European witch hunts and something somebody said in this thread about political power, religion and inquisitions rang a bell. I think this applies to inquisitions as well as witch hunts: In countries where churches did NOT have political power, very few people were killed for being witches. In countries where the churches DID have political power, there was terrible carnage. This could probably be filed under, "Why we have separation of Church and State."
