    Medea, a sorceress, daughter of Aeetes, King of Colchis, and wife of
Jason, whom she assisted in obtaining the Golden Fleece is often
depicted in a flying chariot pulled by dragons after she has killed her
children by Jason and destroyed the people in the village where the
woman Jason had an affair with  lived as well as that woman and her
children.  Never a good idea to get a sorceress angry at one, even if
she is your wife.  Some commentators on the play of the same name by
Euripides have suggested the dragon symbolized her rage at her betrayal
by Jason and the elemental forces it evoked in her, causing her to go on
a murderous rampage.
