Many elements are combined such as sitting Dhikr in a circle, standing in straight lines, dancing in a circle, all while chanting the Divine Names. A WIRD is a litany of praise done for invocation and protection. It consists of repetitions of passages from the Holy Quran, repetitions of the Esma (Divine Names), and Salawats (blessings upon the Prophet, S.A.W.). The Wird is usually fairly long, i.e. 20 minutes to an hour and is usualy read aloud. It can be read aloud alone or in congregation. It can be read as an opening invocation before a Dhikr or can be read alone as a devotional practice. The Wirds of the various orders were formulated by the Pir or founder of the order in question. When an order branches off from another, usually a new Wird is adopted. The Qadri, Shadhili, and Khalwati orders all have different Wirds. Peace and Blessings in the Holy Month
