I believe that Spare got the idea from the mid-19th century sex magician
Paschal Beverly Randolph, via Randolph's books on the subject, such as
"Eulis!" By the late 19th century Randolph's writings were used as the
basis for the theories promulgated by The Brotherhood of Luxor, and
thence influenced several late-19th and early 20th century
sex-magicians, including Spare and Crowley. For more on Randolph and his
