I am not an Asian scholar, but through my research into these matters it has become my understanding that the Kama Sutra is a work more along the lines of a "marriage manual" than it is a book of religious instruction, as are the various tantric texts. It is highly useful, however, in that it does list numerous positions (asanas) used in tantric practice. Likewise, some of the ancient Chinese sex manuals list and describe positions for intercourse that are also found to be of value in Taoist sex-alchemy. In my personal practice, which is karezza, bodily positions per se are not of the importance that they are in some schools of sacred sex worship or sex magic ritual. However, having said that, i have found in my experience that some positions for intercourse seem to more highly favour induction into states of heightened or altered consciousness than others. Your mileage may vary. > I enjoyed a portion of your site and will look at it > further but I'm assuming this goes way beyond sexual positions and > into more of a religious topic. Yes, it does. > If so, how religious is it? Is it > just into a "inner spirituality" or does it delve into Indian gods > and worship? I'm interested... Ah. What a great series of questions! How religious is it? Hmmm. In the sense that "religion" represents a strictly formalized approach to worship of and/or experience of the divine, tantra yoga is a religion. It insists upon "lineage" and its practitioners shun anything outsdie their ancient texts as "false" and "misleading." But if one defines religion as any path that leads to the divine, then karezza too is a religious practice, as can be seen in the many mentions in its texts of "heaven" and "divine union." Is what i describe on my web site just "inner spirituality"? No. It is vastly, immensely more than that, in my experience. Does my web site delve into Indian gods and worship? A bit, but only insofar as i briefly recount my personal experiences as a devotee of Siva. You can delve more deeply into Indian imagery, if you want to, at other tantric web sites, such as Mike Magee's. Also note that whereas many traditional Indian tantrikas use names such as Siva and Sakti for the Divine Couple, there are Christian karezzans who restrict themselves to metaphors of Christ and the Bride of Christ. In recognition of my own personal heterodoxy, i twist a specific Christian phrase and tell folks that "i have accpted Lord Siva as my personal Saviour." Some people get the meaning, others do not. By the way, thanks for posting this query to usenet rather than sending me private e-mail. I really appreciate the courtesy. Om Namah Sivaya! Thank You, Jesus!
