In the Tibetan teaching, the six realms correlate with the six
negative emotions:

Hungry Ghosts-----------Lust/Greed
Hell Realm-----------------ANGER!

The implication is that these are not just places one goes when one
dies, but there is the instant karma aspect where one's perception is
immediately changed because of the emotional filter, which puts one in
one of those realms and renders the Buddha realms invisible.

"Verily this land is the lotus land of purity and this body is the
body of God!"
