To: soc.religion.eastern From: tyagi nagasiva Subj: Buddhism (Evans-Wentz) (9309.buddhsm.wew) Date: 49930904 "The Three Secret Doctrines are, briefly, the teachings conveyed by initiation, concerning the External (or Exoteric), the Internal (or Esoteric), and the Transcendental (or Non-Dualistic, i.e. Non-Exoteric and Non-Esoteric) aspects of Truth, or Reality. The essentiality of the Hinayana represents the first; the essentiality of the Mahayana, the second; and the Doctrine of the Voidness (Skt. Shunyata), as set forth in the Prajna Paramita, represents the third." From _The Tibetan Book of the Great Liberation_ in a note to 'An Epitome of the Life and Teachings of Tibet's Great Guru Padma-Sambhava', by Yeshey Tshogyal, Ed. by W.Y. Evans-Wentz, page 122, note 1. ___________________________________________________________________ I found this incredibly interesting and wish to know if there are other systematic attempts to relate the various 'vehicles' of Buddhism. It seems obvious that the Vajrayana would fit under the Non-Dualistic, or Transcendental teachings, passed down from Nagarjuna. tyagi nagasiva tyagi@HouseofKaos.Abyss.com
