Taliszanna, you are correct. Vodoun and Voodoo are indeed the same. Voodoo is NOT a "spin-off of the religion of Vodoun." Vodoun is a Frenchified spelling (with a silent "n" in Haiti) of the Ewe / Fon (West African) word that is spelled Voodoo in English. The word means "spirit" or "spiritual matters" -- e.g. religion. Like many religions, Voodoo (Vodoun) contains some magical elements, but it is better distinguished by the fact that it has a liturgy, clergy, deities, congregational worship services, and all the other attributes of a religion. Much of the magical work in Vooodoo is done to gain the favours of deities. In this, it differs very little in concept from the magical works performed in Jeiwsh magic or Hindu magic. Hoodoo is African-American folk-magic. Most of its practitioners are Protestant Christians, but it contains many traditionally African elements of belief and practice as well as inclusions of British and German folk magic. cat yronwode Hoodoo in Theory and Practice -- http://www.luckymojo.com/hoodoo.html
