generaly when one "scrys" one sees persons, places and/or things often
of a highly abstract nature though very realistic scenes may be revealed
to they scryer, either in the spirit vision or through a medium of a
crystal ball, pool of ink, or bowl of water. channeling on the other
hand is usually the attempt or act of giving voice to a deceased person,
ramtha and her 30,000 year old atlantian warrior comes to mind. some
people have claimed to channel the akasic records, information rather
than a personality and its knowledge and often times the terms are used
interchangably if inacuratly.

Channel- n. The pathway, within or without a person, through which energy or
a spirit may move.
 v. The act of moving a spirit or allowing a spirit to move within internal
pathways, often to
speak. If this is done unwillingly, it is referred to as possession.
In a similar vein, there is also being "ridden" by a spirit in Voodoun.

Scrying- Divination, usually using such methods as crystal gazing, or
divination via incense smoke, or water.
Divination being a magical means of inquiry or exploration, essentially
gaining information or insight through non-normative means.

The difference is one between giving part of bodily control to someone, as
letting someone else push your fingers to type out what you want to know,
which they may or may not choose to give you or watching the news which may
or may not have the info you need. Also, there are other reasons for
channeling other than information. It is ritually used as a tool to honor a
divine and welcome that divine within a circle. (Not highly recommended as
far as I am concerned, but still respectably done.)

I hope this clears some things up.

That's pretty much it. Both practices are attempts to contact invisible
intelligences and gather information not available through normal methods
of inquiry.

"Channelling" seeks to contact these entities by allowing one's body to be
used by them to communicate with other people. "Scrying" uses some
externalized object, usually something somewhat transparent-looking, such
as a crystal, a pool of water, or a mirror, in which one "sees" the entity
and communicates with it that way.

Yes. Scrying is often a gnosis type thing. Other times scrying
involves contacting other entities. But the scryer is not taken
over by the entities.

With channeling the entities sorta take-over the magus and talk
through him or her.

Often the scryer will use tools like tarot cards, runes, or at
least a crystal to gaze in. With channeling these tools are not
commonly used.
