The use of urine (a.k.a. chamber lye) to protect a house as well as to
draw customers to a business is found extensively in African-based
systems of magic, including African-American hoodoo and the magical
practices associated with African-diaspora religions such as Santeria
and Vodoun. Ammonia, recommended by tegan's Santero friend, is what
gives urine much of its smell, by the way, so the two things are closely
related.

In practical work, urine is not "spread around the house," as you
imagined, however -- it is used to dress the door-step of the premises,
and is sometimes mixed with other ingredients, such as salt (for
protection) or cinnamon and sugar (to draw customers).

You may "lol" all you want, but don't be surprised if others, whose
traditions and forms of spell-casting you are mocking, conclude from
your behaviour that you a very ignorant little "nile princess" indeed.
