Perhaps, but that's so harsh a way to put it that it distorts what he really _is_ telling us. As our own grimoires show, there _isn't_ "a" way to summon a spirit being; you have, rather, an assortment of ways, and it's up to you to figure out from the nature of the being you want what protective precautions to take, what incenses or offerings are attractive to It, what words (and in what language) to use in calling It, and so on. The ancient Romans had a shotgun Calling: "Be propitious, O Divine One [numen], be Thou male or be thou Female!", but I don't think most of us would care to take pot luck with the sort of genii or other spirits that we're likely to have floating around. -- Dick Eney
