Lily's post (the subject line is "Re: Strange Question") is a good
outline of how to go about creating your own spells. Writing spells is
not just a matter of writing some words down -- as Lily explained, first
you need to know what you actually desire from the operation, and you
need to take some time to work through all the subsidiary issues in your
head. What Lily wrote was good advice.

Next, if you wish to devise yiour own spell or ritual, you may want to
work out the symbolism of any colours, herbs, candle-shapes, incenses,
stones, amulets, and/or timing of the work that you plan. You can do
all of these things in your head or by writing them out on paper ahead
of time. Some book research may be needed -- or you can go entirely with
your intuition, if you prefer.

You can create and memorize any words or gestures or movements that you
think will be part of the spell. Some people like to improvise such
matters and some people like to work from a script -- and either way is
perfectly fine, depending on your own talents and inclinations. For
instance, let's imagine a simple spell that employs a candle and some
incnse:

Will you light the candle first or the incense first?
How will you dispose of the matches you used to light them?
Will they lay on the altar and be messy and distracting?
Will you have a covered dish to put them in?
Will you throw them on the floor, or into the bushes?
If the incense burns out before the candle, will you light more?
If you light more incense, where will you find the matches?
If you light more incense, how wil you dispose of the matches?

Whether you prefer a scripted spell or will be improvising, these are
the kinds of things it is good to work out in your mind before you
start, so that you don't fumble around and lose your concentration while
doing the work.

Finally, like Baron von Wankenstein recently did in his posts, you may
want to write down what you did during the spell, how you felt about it,
and what happened afterward. Whether you create your own spells or work
from traditional models, keeping a so-called "magical record" or diary
of your spell-casting is a good idea for any newbie who wants to become
a more proficient witch, root worker, or mage. .

I hope this helps -- and, of courase, your mileage may vary!
