given that it is a 'weird feeling', I'll presume you haven't had
it all that often. by your use of the phrase 'occult powers' I
infer that you perceive magic as similar or related to psychicism
or superhero mutants, and that magic may therefore be a reservoir.

all manner of things which might be described in response.

your last two terminological identifiers: 'prayer' and 'black 
magic'. these terms are more often utilized by theurges and
religious without familiarity to a study of magic. it implies
some constraints on activity based on relation to the divine,
possibly participating in radical dualism to the point of
believing in the Good Guys and the Bad Guys duking it out
in the skies above us.

conventionally protection without reflection or reaction is
considered white magic as it preserves and prevents harm.
thus your question amounts to an inquiry about the entire
field of protective spells, charms, rituals, etc.  this area
of magic is so large that it would take many books to answer
your question outside a few examples which have probably
already been given in response to your post.
