With that login name, you _should_ know this part: Olaves (bards) had to master different categories of song. Among them were Suantrai, the Sleep Song. The bard didn't just move you with his music, his song was magical. I can't remember the proper names of the other song types right now. There are more suantrai surviving than the others. I've seen songs to keep your child safe from the faeries, songs that the faeries supposedly sang to call children to them, songs to make the listener sleep, songs to keep the house safe while the listener sleeps... In these cases, the words are not inherently magical. But the singing _is_ the spell.
