To: alt.magick.tyagi,alt.lucky.w,alt.paranormal.spells.hexes.magic,alt.magick.folk,alt.pagan.magick Subject: Hoodoo Yahoogroup Application From: blackman99Date: Thu, 04 Dec 2003 01:00:41 GMT application to a hoodoo forum (for which I GUESS I've been rejected -- they just stopped corresponding with me!): # you will need to submit a full description of yourself male, 42, life-time student of magic studying all aspects of practice and theory, from anthropology and modern Wicca to religions and mysticism the world over. most of my time has been spent in the company of Neopagans and solitaries, but I'm conversant with numerous religiomagical practices, including some hoodoo, which I've been studying lately. # and your practices my devotions are to an Indian goddess, my magic eclectic and diverse, integrating supportive and ecological standards toward politics and religion to assist the health of us all, bringing down barriers and bogies that separate us from care. I'm making a Tarot deck right now, researching occult history, and have an ongoing, mutually-agreed honey-jar spell with my wife and mate of almost 4 years. we live in the country, do the occasional devotion to some saint in respect of their assistance, maintain several altars in our home of what I'd call Neopagan and eclectic composition. my wife introduced me to the works of Haskins, Hyatt, Hurston, and the variety of fabricationalists passing off Voodoo as a novel black magic. since then I've found some strong interest in the Germanic and African strands of magical practice in hoodoo, how this intersects with Jewish magical texts and scriptures, and fits into the lifestyle of the African- American (in the Philosophy of Fire, the consideration of Moses as a black man, etc.) and the modern neo-occultist. I've begun small collections of magical items from within the hoodoo commodities market, studied recipes/formulae for natural magic, and what saints and candles are used by conventional conjures to effect which results in spells. in association with my Tarot construction I did research on astrology, astronomy, and planetry symbolism from such renowned sources as Cornelius Agrippa, and think there may be some rootworkers who may have been influenced by him. I'd really love to be a part of your group, exchange data on spells, formulae, and examination of terminology (what you think 'hoodooing' someone is, for example). the depth of the subject of hoodoo seems elusive and I'm always very willing to learn more to supplement my everday construction of talismans, charms, incenses or oils. comment/discussion encouraged. blackman99
