The rule of thumb for me (which I think is pretty much plain vanilla) has been: - you always open and close with the Lesser Banishing Pentagram. - If you invoke by Greater or Supreme in the course of a working, then banish by the same "level" as you wrap it up. Some exceptions in practice: if I open by Watchtowers, I find that closing with Lesser Hexagram and Pentagram is sufficient to clean up. These are such flexible and powerful tools each of us has to figure out the best uses for them. I found that the examples of Z2 rituals (and writing a couple of my own) were the biggest help but I like precise high liturgy ritual, rich in the rolling turn of phrase, so it matches my personal aesthetic (I've always enjoyed doing Shakespeare or neoclassical stuff like Lion In Winter too, so at least its consistent (g)).
