At least someone has got the right idea. If someone wanted to >do >a fake Necronomicon, I would recommend buying the Simon edition as a guide >for what NOT to do. Surely you know absolutely nothing of magic. Simon wrote his Necronomicon along Crowley's ritual formats--any first year apprentice could see that easily. Simon even capitalized the words he wanted you to do numerology on. How much easier could it get? >That it is a piece of claptrap should be immediately >apparent to anyone who has seriously studied the occult. Tee hee giggle rip snort. >As for good hoaxes of the Necronomicon, have you seen Hay's (Skoob >Esoterica, 1978), and its companion volume The R'lyeh Text (Skoob, 1995)? BWAAHHAHAHAHAAHHAHHAHAHHAHAHHAHA!!!!!!! You shithead. Those two books don't even have believable cover stories--their provenance is so full of contradictions that you can't even read it like fiction, even if you disregard the fact that almost all of the rituals in the book require impossible conditions or ingredients unobtainable to the average citizen. The illustrations are ridiculous (even if you ignore the fact that the "original manuscript" was only a series of letters with *no* illustrations, and no descriptions of same. >This is a wonderful piece of hoaxing which involves actual manuscripts >written by Dee. It involves one picture of part of one of Dee's manuscripts--it's not that big an endorsement. Check out Lin Carter's Necronomicon. I'm sure you'll find it much more interesting, along with certain sections of the Sussex Manuscript. I reviewed the salient parts of both awhile back for the newsgroup.
